What Makes Christianity Compelling? (Part 2)

What Makes Christianity Compelling? (Part 2)

In Luke 14, Jesus gives the famous Great Banquet parable. A master wants to fill his banquet hall with guests, so he instructs his servants to go out into the roads and byways and “compel them to come in.” Is Jesus teaching that compulsion is a way to salvation? Should we force other people to become Christians? On the contrary, the instruction is for us as sharers of our faith. We need to make a compelling case for Christianity. In this teaching, Lenny looks at how the early church proved to be compelling in pagan Rome and offers three points on how you can become more compelling in living out your faith.

Sharing Your Faith in a Post-Christian World #2: Talking Faith without Fighting (Part 4)

Sharing one’s faith is becoming more and more difficult as our culture moves away from its traditionally religious roots. Passionate discussions can sometimes lead to angry words or hurt feelings. But this isn’t the way we should spread the Gospel; it’s unloving and ineffective, too. In this talk, Lenny offers some specific tactics in sharing the Christian faith so you may present the truth in a loving, attractive, and effective manner.

Christian History Series #5: He Came In through the Bathroom Window (Part 6)

Most Christians have heard about the twelve ragtag followers Jesus picked out to be his disciples. But many don’t know about those he saved in the subsequent centuries. In this fifth installment of our class, Lenny looks at two key figures who both had a tremendous impact in shaping Christian thought. Athanasius was a staunch defender of the Trinity, even though he faced decades of resistance and persecution. Augustine went from a carnal pagan to a cultist to one of the most influential thinkers in all Christendom—one whose arguments even shut down the New Atheists today.

Christian History Series #5: He Came In through the Bathroom Window (Part 4)

Most Christians have heard about the twelve ragtag followers Jesus picked out to be his disciples. But many don’t know about those he saved in the subsequent centuries. In this fifth installment of our class, Lenny looks at two key figures who both had a tremendous impact in shaping Christian thought. Athanasius was a staunch defender of the Trinity, even though he faced decades of resistance and persecution. Augustine went from a carnal pagan to a cultist to one of the most influential thinkers in all Christendom—one whose arguments even shut down the New Atheists today.

Christian History Series #4: The Most Interesting Man in the World (Part 6)

What beliefs define a true Christian? That was a key question after Constantine barred Christian persecution, lifting them from prisons to palaces. In the fourth and fifth centuries, the key questions of the faith centered around the divinity and humanity of Jesus. Was he God like God the Father or a created man? How did that work out specifically? In this part of our lecture series, we will explore how the early church affirmed Jesus’s full humanity as well as his full divinity and why these things are crucial even for us today.

Christian History Series #3: The Canon Heard Round the World (Part 6)

Today, we hear a lot about the so-called “lost books” of the Bible. The charge is made that somehow the church hand-selected only those documents that would keep them in power and other equally valid texts were ignored. Is this true? In our third lecture series, Lenny looks at how the Bible canon developed, why there are good reasons to leave others out, and just how we know these 66 books are truly the word of God.
